Celebrate culture, community and creative expression at NJPAC’s annual Kwanzaa Festival! Inspired by the Kwanzaa principle of Imani (faith), this online event includes an in-depth intergenerational conversation and poetry reading with young artists.
How can we face our present, if we don’t know our past? At a time when senior citizens, especially those in communities of color, are particularly vulnerable, we need their wisdom more than ever. Join us for a conversation with the elders in our community, as they share the insight they’ve accrued over their lifetimes and offer guidance to us all as we navigate a uniquely treacherous time.
Learn the history of Newark’s community, and find strength for the struggle ahead with leaders who have decades of experiences to share.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka will provide opening remarks. The event will be moderated by President of Newark NAACP Deborah Smith Gregory, our panel features poet and activist Amina Baraka, Stanley Terrell, and Councilwoman Mildred Crump. Young poets will join us from NAACP and NJPAC’s City Verses program.
