Overview
Calling all arts educators!
Every student should learn Black history—and the arts are an incredible tool to teach it. In this workshop led by Rann Miller, director of Anti-Bias and DEI Initiatives in Southern NJ, you’ll learn new strategies for teaching Black history using the visual and performing arts. From paint to poetry to music, we’ll explore a treasure trove of examples and ideas you can bring back to your classroom.
During this session, you will:
- Boost your understanding of Black history content that is currently taught, how we teach it and why it is not adequate
- Increase your knowledge of what we should be teaching instead
- Gain culturally relevant teaching strategies that uplift community and challenge systemic barriers
