For 150 years, The Bethany Baptist Church of Newark has been one of the leading African American houses of worship. The Church features monthly jazz in its Saturday evening Vesper services.
In March, Bethany Baptist welcomes jazz pianist Sullivan Fortner. Coming up in New Orleans, he followed a storied lineage of improvisers, masters of time and every iteration of blues. Collecting elements from different eras and musical styles, the GRAMMY® Award winner creates a sound that’s at once deeply soulful and wildly inventive.
