Overview
Join us for a conversation with Timothy Crist, president of the Newark History Society, on the first settlers of Newark, which is located on the ancestral territory of the Munsee Lenape people. While archival records are limited and reflect the views of the first settlers of Newark, they provide insights into where Munsee Lenape camped and how they resisted the settlers when they first arrived in 1666, how negotiations for the land subsequently took place, and the relationship between the settlers and Munsee Lenape during the period of encounter.
This event will be held at Newark Public Library.
