Overview

Celebrate the legacy of renowned bassist Milt Hinton with a film screening and tribute concert. Keeping Time: The Life, Music, and Photographs of Milt Hinton is a loving portrait of a jazz legend who not only made beautiful music, but also took some of the most unforgettable photographs of 20th-century American life.

The documentary screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the faculty of the Milt Hinton Institute for Studio Bass. The conversation will be moderated by Jeremy Smith and will feature Bill Crow, Buster Williams, Rufus Reid, Martin Wind, Bill Moring, Mimi Jones, Ben Williams, Marcus McLaurine, Ranaan Meyer, Peter Dominguez and film producers David G. Berger and Holly Berger.

The celebratory day closes with the Milt Hinton Day Concert hosted by Peter Dominguez, Artistic Director, Milt Hinton Institute for Studio Bass. Performing artists — some of Hinton’s contemporaries and beneficiaries of his musical legacy — include Bill Crow, Rufus Reid, Buster Williams, Ben Williams, Jay Leonhart, Billy Hart, Emma Dayhoff, Raanan Meyer and Mimi Jones.
