Presenter: John Prieto, Archivist and Board Member, Canal Society of New Jersey

First published in 1835 by B.T. Pierson, Newark City Directories are a goldmine of information for historical and genealogical researchers. The personal listings, business descriptions and period ads in the directories chart Newark’s 19th-century growth.

John Prieto will discuss Pierson’s early life and his fierce determination, in spite of many challenges, to publish the directories. Prieto is an archivist and board member of the Canal Society of New Jersey.
