Sets, Lights and Sound … Learn and explore the world behind the scenes of theater. Young artists will investigate several areas of production from theater and shop safety, scenic design fundamentals and set construction to basic operations of lighting and sound technology, and exploration of career opportunities in live concert production and technical theater. Together with teaching artists, hands-on learning and masterclasses with IATSE professionals, Backstage Pathways introduces the vast world of professional possibilities.

Young artists will attend 4 hour week day / weekend sessions in NJPAC’s Black Box Theater to practice creating lighting cues, troubleshooting and working through real-world scenarios. After eight weeks, participants will be prepared to put their new skills to work during tech week which leads up to the series of showcase performances for students in NJPAC’s Arts Training programs. Students are eligible to take the USITT examination.

The program kicks off with a special behind-the-scenes tour of Kirk Franklin: The Reunion Tour 2024 at Prudential Center on Thu, Oct 3.

Backstage Pathways is a partnership with Prudential Center’s Record High and is underwritten by a grant from the Devils Youth Foundation.
